I went down about 6:30pm on the day of the launch party to Geek Terminal and was disappointed that there didn’t seem to be much going on other than people getting into the free food. While the socialising seemed good I couldn’t see any gadgets and that’s what I was after. There wasn’t any real indication of how to join in or make yourself known either. Being a geek in such a place it would have been nice if that had been catered for better. I went off in somewhat of a sulk :)
So I decided that I should give it a second chance and so headed back this evening to get something to eat on the way home. It was empty when I got there and there were place settings on all the tables so I thought there might be something on and turned to leave. Fortunately one of the staff called out to say hello and I decided to go on in. The guys serving at the bar were all cheerful and friendly so I was able to grab some food quickly (bbq chickend sandwich and some wedges) and were even more enthusiastic when I asked for a beer. Turns out they’re trialling beers from Archipelago Brewery(Warning, fucking annoying flash dependency on that site) and I got two beers on the house! That’s a great way to win me around :) I felt bad getting the second beer free as I wanted to buy that one to even things up a bit (the food only came to S$12) but they did insist. :) All they wanted in exchange was my opinion on the beers and I have to say I really did like them. Went well with the food (I had the Pale Ale with the food and the Wheat Ale afterwards). I would love if they kept them on as they make a pleasant change from bog standard lager. I’m going to try their wine the next time round, if they do it by the glass. They’re a friendly bunch and gave me a quick tour of the facilities they have. Some practical stuff there that would make it a good place for visitors to Singapore or indeed people who only come into the CBD occassionally. They have multifunction printers (same series as we use in the office) that can do scanning and send/receive faxes as well as good quality colour and black & white printing. The charges are reasonable I’m told. They have neat power strips along the floor that allow you to get power easily, apparently a local Singapore company do this so they’re quite proud to point it out.
It’s close to the train station so it works out as a good place to swing by on the way home from work for me. I’m a convert.
