Following on from the discussion that we had at the last mac meetup, I’ve committed to blogging about something other than blogging. I was going to write a stroppy entry about Singaporean behaviours that were pissing me off. I’m trying to avoid that as much as possible so I was fortunate to find something positive to talk about.

Neville, Michael B and I went out for a few beers that ended up taking us to the Mitre where we talked a lot of shite, and bitched quite a bit.

Digression

For those who don’t know, the Mitre is something of an institution in Singapore. Providing beer at the times of the night you need it. As in, anytime. It’s gone very quiet of late. But it does go through phases like this. It’s on Kiliney Road, the rest is up to you.

Though it was actually reasonably constructive. No, it wasn’t actually. I forgot just how much beer we had, for a minute there. Then a quick throb of my forehead reminded me. At 6am we decided that it was time to call a halt to the proceedings and go in search of some roti prata before crawling into bed. Asking in the Mitre brought the suggestion of going towards Somerset MRT station, no joy there alas.
So, I jokingly suggested that Neville asked the police man sitting outside the Orchard Police Station. This idea came from a discussion we had earlier in the evening, where I was describing my experience filing a report after losing my EP. Naturally, the very young looking police officer was quite … befuddled … by the whole scene of three ang mohs outside a police station at 6am, soaked to the bone (it was lashing rain) asking where they could find roti prata. He was really helpful but did decide that it was far too early for anywhere nearby to be serving prata.

We trekked on and found a little coffee shop, with a chap who was bemused by the same scene experienced by the police officer. But, he came up with the goods – his recommendation for the best prata in the area. Bold. We liked that. Not sure how you spell it, but I think it was ‘Zum Zum’ (??) down on Bencoolen Street/Middle Road. Tasty, but not the best. Not that I want to challenge a Singaporean on food standards but I still prefer the ones that I had for breakfast this past week. No idea what the eatery is called, however it’s found at one end of the lobby in the Suntec convention centre.

All in all, it was good fun, the best part was the help we got from the various people along the way. Just wish we had taken some photos for the sake of laughing at ourselves today.

Prattle.
