So I’m in Galway now for almost a month and I thought this was be a good time to do an update. As ever, I avoid mentioning employers on the blog but the details are on LinkedIn, if we’re connected. Anyway, it’s an experience to start in a company after being at the last one for seven years. You’re the newbie who’s getting settled in and finding your way. So far, I’ve mainly been reading product and project documentation so I can’t say it’s thrilling in that respect. However, that’s how it goes when you’re new. The future my job holds certainly seems bright as it’s in an interesting field and things in the company are very well organised. Some travel on the horizon but I’m hoping this will stay organised and there won’t be any rolling return dates on my trips away. So, I’m happy on the work front.

Choice of where I live may be a little controversial. I’m living in Corcullen which is out the N59. Probably 5 – 6 miles from Eyre Square. That puts it at 3 miles from the IDA Business Park in Dangan where I work. Hopped on the bus the first while heading in and out, bit of a pain doing that because it’s not so frequent but that’s life when you don’t drive (Aside: I’m going to take some lessons and do my driving test because life in Ireland without a car is difficult). For now, I’m cycling in and out of work which is actually quite nice because I’m getting some exercise, the weather is nice and there’s a bit of a view. It’s somewhat dangerous though as there are some rather nasty bends on the road. Still, I get peace and quiet with plenty of space around me so I’m happy. I think most people believe I’m quite mad for doing things this way though.

Social life needs work, not into the beer anymore so pubs are slightly less interesting when you’re just on the non-alcoholic bevvies. However, I did manage a boards.ie meetup and caught up with a new Book Club here. I’ll have to work on the social life though!
