Ah it's grand.
Sure.

One of the reasons that I haven’t written that much is that I haven’t found a client (for Mac OS X) I like blogging with. I had a look at ecto and I wasn’t that keen on the interface nor the fact that it costs around S$32. I also looked at another client, which I don’t have link for but it wasn’t compatible with Panther. Now I don’t have any objection to paying for software, per se. However, I’m using MovableType which accepts donations and you get the source code. It’s not quite open source, but the terms of usage are pretty decent. More than pretty decent actually. So, I believe that any client designed to work with movable type should be something similar. In fact I think it should be fully Open Source. Hell, make it GPL! So, I’ve decided I’m going to write a client for Panther…

To cap a generally shite week, my gallagher.cx domain conked it. Apparently it’s not been renewed. A reminder or a warning would have been courteous. Trying to login into one of the .cx registrars is a pain in the hole. So I’m going to have some fun getting that back up and running. Worst part is, most of the mail I get to that domain now is spam. However, people do still contact me on it…

.. for I have written fuck all. I’ve realised that I don’t have the tools that I want to write a blog. OS X Panther doesn’t seem to have a free / Open Source blogging client for MovableType. I’m thinking about writing one but I need to get my other project out of the way. My first XCode project is going to be an editor for the firewall section of the SpeedTouch 570 configuration file. Once that’s out of the way, I’ll try to move onto the blogging client. Then maybe come back to the ST570 editor to look at the rest of the config file.

Okay, so this is quite sometime after the fact. Sadly, no photos as yet. Good night down in SODs listening to Ken Cotter. Naturally, no idea how I got home. But I do recall one of the taxi drivers taking me somewhere completely unrelated to where I wanted to go…

Finally, got Gallery to work again on this host. The path issue with ImageMagick was resolved. I also had a chance to play with NukedGallery which is pretty useful. It allows you to integrate Gallery into PHPNuke. This makes it a bit easier to control everything an maintain a look and feel. However, this blog doesn’t fit in as I have been able to sort out the index.html. It’s a pain in the arse, but I’m not all that interested in throwing time at it to fix it.

Oh well … it’s another trip to Jakarta. Thankfully it’s just a day. However it does mean a 5:30 start .. I have problems with a 7:30 start, so that’s going to mean great humour for the rest of the day!

Bloody Tungsten T crashed again today. I had a nice little rant going as well. I’m really getting into this blogging thing, alright.

Quick summary of what was lost:

I was quite pleased with my scrambled egg platter at 7 this morning, in Burger King. Sadly it lead to trying the SIA omlette. Rubbery and tasteless. Fuck it was awful.

Jakarta traffic proved a bit more interesting than usual. Shortly after the first toll booth, after you leave the airport, two police outriders were parting the traffic. A lá Moses and the Red Sea, except Moses never had to deal with people turning a two lane expressway into a three and a half lane expressway. The parting made way for four or five official cars and a van of heavily armed police. This little group made their way through the centre. Immediately the drivers of the cars, trucks and other assorted motorised vehicles following decided to jump on the tail of the last car and, in theory, speed through the morning traffic. Well, suddenly the centre lane was a sprawling jam and a few minutes later the cavalcade was clear and everyone else was playing catch up again. Now out on open road, the afformentioned well-armed policemen decided they liked their space and nobody, but nobody, was going to use them as traffic blockers. For the next mile or two we were treated to traditional gun waving whenever anyone invaded their no-drive zone.

As you may have noticed from the blog entries today, I’ve been playing with blogging clients on my Palm OS device; a Tungsten T. Sadly, it has now crashed and I haven’t got a recent backup here on my mac to fix it. Bollox. Will have to wait until I get back to the office tomorrow to sort it all out. Oh well, at least I’ve found a client that works (and doesn’t crash everything) in Azure.

Another reset got everything up and running again. It’s sad to say, but restoration is easier on my Windows PC. It’s not anything to do with the OS itself, rather the shiteness (new word for you there!) of the Palm Desktop client on the Mac.

I’ve now decided to test from Azure. It’s probably the nicest of all the apps so far but also quite clunky. You do wonder if you have tapped the button you wanted. Then you find you have and all your furious tapping has now brought you down through several menus
